Fees
Self-operation requires the completion of appropriate courses taught at the Center for Advanced Microscopy or completion of equivalent courses at another University along with refresher training specific to the equipment at the Center for Advanced Microscopy.
After a thorough review process, new equipment use fees go into effect on September 1st, 2025. Please reach out to Andy with any questions.

Additional Confocal Imaging Fee Policies
Discount for Image Analysis (no lasers)
Image analysis may be performed after 5pm (M-F) or on weekends at no charge. However, during normal lab hours (8am-5pm M-F), any use of the confocal will be subject to the above charges. Please make a note in the logbook under the “Comment” section if you are using the confocal for analysis only.
Discount for Extended Use Applications
A 50% discount may be applicable for long-term, live-cell imaging applications when performed under the following the conditions:
- user must have prior approval from confocal supervisor
- only applicable for trained (unassisted) users
- only applicable when instrument is used continuously for 8hr or more for a single experiment (continuous imaging).
Requirements for unassisted use
Faculty, post-docs, technicians: 3.0 hours of CAM training, NSC837 audit recommended
Graduate students: Completion of NSC837 required plus 1.5 hrs training on specific
confocal system.
Note: Graduate students who have not taken NSC837 may use the confocal systems with CAM assistance at a rate of $70/hour.
